Susan Sullivan will attend a NYC reading of the upcoming play "Love and Class in Connecticut" on September 7, 2012.

'Castle' star part of Woodbridge playwright's reading

Woodbridge playwright Susan Cinoman will move her play "Love and Class in Connecticut" a big step closer to a professional production with a New York City reading set for Friday, Sept. 7.
The script attracted the attention of director Karen Lynn Carpenter (of the off-Broadway hit, "Love, Loss and What I Wore") who sent it on to Susan Sullivan, the veteran actress who co-stars on the ABC series "Castle." The performer said she wanted a shot at the play and Carpenter quickly lined up Ally Walker and Angelica Page for the private reading, which will be done for potential producers and other theater-world folk.
In a phone interview last week, Cinoman said she was very excited by the interest in her play.
"Karen loved it right away and got some producers interested in it. One of the producers of `American Idiot' and `How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' is coming up from Washington to see it," she said.
"We'll be looking for some feedback, but we're hoping one of them will say, `Let's go!,' " the writer said, with a chuckle.
Cinoman teaches theater at Woodland High School in Beacon Falls. "I'd like to be writing full time, of course, but I like teaching acting and directing the (school) shows," she said.
Getting Sullivan to commit to the Sept. 7 event was a big step forward.
"Everyone loves her. Once she said she wanted to do it, it all started to come together," Cinoman said.
The two male roles in the play haven't been filled yet, but the playwright is hoping Fairfield native Justin Long will be able to participate.
"We're waiting to hear back from him and Christian Borle," she said of this year's Tony-winner for "Peter and the Starcatcher" and a featured player on the NBC series "Smash."
"I'm a little nervous, but Karen is not worried," Cinoman said of the two unfilled male roles, adding that for this sort of event the actors come together for the first time on the day of the performance to prepare for the reading.
Stay tuned to "Stage Buzz" for further developments on "Love and Class in Connecticut."

Moses brings sparkle to town in Dirty Laundry

By Louis Hobson ,Calgary Sun

To say William R. Moses is one of television’s more familiar faces is an understatement.

For the past three decades Moses has starred in or guest starred on every major TV series from his debut on Fantasy Island in 1981 to The Mentalist, The Glades and Castle this past season.
It’s not his one nighters that have made Moses a small- screen favourite, but such series as Falcon Crest, Perry Mason Murders, Melrose Place, Fame and The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
Moses was just 22 when he landed the role of Cole Geoberti on Falcon Crest, still a reigning superstar of night time soaps because it played to as many as 40-million fans each Friday night from 1981 to 1990.
“I did 139 shows in six years. Falcon Crest was an amazing experience. I was a real novice when I got the role, so I have never forgotten how blessed and lucky I was.
“Jane Wyman, who was the star of the show, used to call me the dumb kid who knew nothing and then, through example, proceeded to show me the ropes as did Susan Sullivan and Robert Foxworth, who played my parents,” says Moses, who is headlining Stage West’s new comedy Dirty Laundry that opens Thursday.
He says the only downside of Falcon Crest was the producers marketed him for the first few seasons as the show’s beefcake.
“There are still some of those embarrassing shirtless photos of me hidden on the Internet. I was never comfortable with that approach but that’s what the producers wanted.”
No sooner had Falcon Crest wrapped but Moses was hired to play Ken Malansky opposite Raymond Burr in the TV movie Perry Mason: The Case of the Lethal Lesson.
The pairing of Moses and Burr was so electric that they did 24 more Perry Mason movies together.
“Raymond was a very complicated person but he was also a very caring, loving man and it was another true blessing just to be around him.”
Moses didn’t exactly stumble into acting.
It was in his blood.
His mother was Marian McCargo, a film actress whose beauty was often compared to Grace Kelly.
McCargo starred in such films as The Undefeated with John Wayne, Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell with Gina Lollobrigada and Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round with James Coburn.
When McCargo divorced her first husband Richard Cantrell Moses in 1963 she was left to raise their four sons on her own.
“Before my mom married my stepfather (politician Alphonzo E. Bell Jr.) she had some pretty famous boyfriends such as Gene Hackman and Robert Logia but I was too young to realize that.
“What I wasn’t too young to realize was that my mom gave up her career to raise us four boys and my three stepbrothers.” A lighter look at the sacrifices people make for marriage is the subject of Dirty Laundry, the Stage West comedy that has brought Moses to Calgary for its Sept. 5 opener.
It is the story of a couple trying to bring some spark and sparkle back into their marriage.

Season 3 DVD Release

News regarding season 3 release (source: Falcon Crest Fanclub):

The WARNER ARCHIVE COLLECTION asks for some more patience concerning the season 3 release date. The season will definitely be released as an MOD edition in the USA. Due to the extensive picture remastering, an exact release date cannot be given at this time.
In the meantime, however, WARNER BROS. offers many season 3 episodes on Amazon Instant Video in their original U.S. version. These videos are not remastered and can be downloaded only by people using a U.S. IP address and with a U.S. residence and credit card.

With WARNER HOME VIDEO's current product policy for older shows and due to unsatisfactory sales of seasons 1 and 2 in total, a season 3 box release with regularly pressed discs has become rather unlikely on the German speaking market unfortunately. However, according to WHV Marketing Director KAI UWE MARNER (06/25/2012), season 3 is likely to be released as an MOD edition (manufactured on demand - burnt discs); this seems also possible for later seasons. In a conversation with DFCF President THOMAS J. PUCHER, the Marketing Director said that, compared to an MOD edition in the USA, which includes the original audio only, an MOD edition in the German speaking market is much more difficult from a technical point of view as the current MOD versions are only compatible with the DVD-5 format, which is not suitable for a second audio layer and, hence, would only allow for the German audio to be put on. The release will make sense only as soon as an MOD edition compatible with the DVD-9 format can be produced.
This means for the German speaking market:
  • Season 3 will not be released before it is released in the USA.
The DFCF welcomes this decision in the interest of remastered picture quality, which the German speaking market will profit from also.
  • Waiting for the technical improvements to create a DVD-9 compatible MOD edition will enable the MOD edition to be fully equipped with both German and English audio layers.
The DFCF informed WHV that, in the interest of choosing between the German dubbing and the original English audio, further delays are not welcome, but acceptable. The DFCF emphasized the importance of both audio layers for the markets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
  • The MOD release will result in a higher price per box compared to "usual" retail sales since each DVD box will be individually manufactured for a very limited target group.

Not the news we hoped for but anyway: It's coming. We just have to be patient. I'll let you know as soon as more news are available.

Celeste Holm dies at 95

Sad news: Oscar-winning actress Celeste Holm (Anna Rossini from Falcon Crest's seasons 4 & 5) died at her home in New York on Sunday at the age of 95, her great-niece, Amy Phillips, confirmed.

Holm had been hospitalized about two weeks ago with dehydration. She asked her husband on Friday to bring her home and spent her final days with her husband, Frank Basile, and other relatives and close friends by her side, said Amy Phillips, who answered the phone at Holm's apartment on Sunday.

Holm died around 3:30 a.m. at her longtime apartment on Central Park West, located in the same building where Robert De Niro lives and where a fire broke out last month, Phillips said.
"I think she wanted to be here, in her home, among her things, with people who loved her," she said.

Holm won an Oscar for best supporting actress in Elia Kazan’s 1947 movie about anti-Semitism Gentleman’s Agreement which starred Gregory Peck. She later was also nominated in the category for All About Eve and Come To The Stable.

Holm was born and raised in New York City and began acting in school plays. She studied acting in college and eventually embraced it as a career. Her first major Broadway role came in a 1940 revival of The Time of Your Life, co-starring fellow newcomer Gene Kelly. Holmes then starred in Rodgers & Hammersteien’s Broadway blockbuster Oklahoma! before her movie career took off in the late 1940s. Other movies included The Tender Trap with Frank Sinatra, High Society with Bing Crosby and The Snake Pit with Oliva de Havilland. In TV, she was nominated for Emmys for Insight and Backstairs at the White House. Holm also appeared in several TV shows during the 1970s and ’80s including Fantasy Island, Falcon Crest and Archie Bunker’s Place. She also appeared in Third Watch, Touched By An Angel and Promised Land. Holm was married five times.

On her 87th birthday she wed opera singer Frank Basile who now survives her. She is also survived by two sons and three grandchildren.

Kim Novak honored at Grauman's Chinese Theatre

Kim Novak was immortalized on Hollywood Boulevard when she sank her hands and feet into a block of wet cement in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday, April 14 2012.

Novak, 79, left her signature marks on the famous ground as a sign of the recognition she said she hungered for throughout her life. Her manager and friend Sue Cameron, actresses Debbie Reynolds and Connie Stevens and director Norman Jewison joined her at the ceremony. Nicole Kidman and Renée Zellweger sent letters to congratulate Kim.

The event was held in connection with the four-day TCM Classic Film Festival which features a screening of "Vertigo," one of Novak's major box-office hits, and her taping of an interview with the television channel's host Robert Osborne.

In an interview with Osborne during the film festival before a 300-people audience Friday, Novak said she sometimes regrets her decision to leave Hollywood in the late 1960s at the heyday of her fame. "I don't think I was ever cut out to have a Hollywood life," Novak said. "Did I do the right thing, leaving? Did I walk out when I shouldn't have? That's when I get sad."

A teenager model-turned-actress, Novak played her first starring role in the 1953 crime melodrama "Pushover." Best known for her role as Judy Barton in the 1958 Alfred Hitchcock film " Vertigo," Novak played her last major role in the 1991 thriller " Liebestraum," casting as an estranged mother who only found unpleasant truths after returning home.

Since the theater opened in 1927, hundreds of outstanding stars in the film industry have had their handprints and footprints in the forecourt.
